Flowers & Nature
Backlit Sunflower
This vibrant sunflower had just bloomed a few days before I captured this image. On this morning, I stepped outside to find this bloom beautifully backlit by the sun and couldn’t resist grabbing my camera.

Intricacies of a Cornflower
Cornflowers are so symmetrical and stiff that they can give one the sense they are fake, paper flowers. When I photographed this blossom I did not notice the "critter" hiding among the pedals.
Little Pink Dahlia
The dahlia has been one of my favorite flowers for decades. Their brilliant colors and mounds of blossoms captivate the eye. This specimen was one of the smallest dahlias in the flower bed. Its coloration was intense.
Iridescent Begonia
This begonia was photographed at a garden center where I found it completely out of place, several yards away from the begonia table. I loved the form and the color, and I love this image.
Giant Pink Dahlia
I came across the massive dahlia at the Fuller Gardens. It stood above the others in the bed. It’s blossom had to have measured eight to ten inches across. I had never seen a dahlia as large as this one and had to photograph it close up.
Iris Among the Weeds
Images like this one are why my camera is always nearby. I was the designated grill master at a family gathering. As I was cooking and flipping I noticed two purple iris' growing among the weeds on the riverbank. Using a shallow depth of field I quickly framed up the shot using the river as a backdrop and then returned to tending the grill.
Junior
Amidst a vibrant bed of rudbeckia, this delicate blossom begins to unfurl its petals, greeting the fresh morning light. The lush green backdrop, paired with a mature bloom in the corner, creates a stunning color palette—a vivid reminder of the warm, sun-kissed days of early summer.
